Nobody can tell me dancers aren't athletic, and they often wear full (if thin) coverings.
You have some good points about taking religious beliefs too far in secular or scientific situations (I am especially amused by the "Porky Pig Barbeque Shack" analogy), but I think this is a case where an acceptable halfway point can be reached. It's not always so easy to do; when that happens, I have to agree with your statement, "[i]f that religion imposes restrictions on what you can and can't do then either accept those limitations or accept that your faith isnt that deep and get whatever religion fits your desire." An Orthodox Jew who likes...well, visiting the Porky Pig Barbeque Shack, and sees no problem with that, might want to reconsider his affiliation.
I think it's important to take these issues on a case-by-case basis, making sure, as you said, that one is not "expect[ing] everyone else to make sacrifices for your own personal beliefs." Accomodation does not have to inconvenience everyone else. That's the kind of end I'd like to see to this story.
