I kept fixing mine until it became utterly useless junk

My old computer which is on the other desk, hasn't been turned on in over 3 months (it'll soon become the garage computer for talking to the car's powertrain control module). It actually has an IBM-XT chassis, power supply, a 5 1/4 inch floppy and a huge CRT that's in danger of lighting on fire (going to junk that). I kept upgrading motherboards and CPUs but retained the ancient exterior. My new machine is in a nice state-of-the-art Antec case with a 400 Watt power supply. Antec makes really nice computer cases (accept no substitutes). My only quarrel with the Antec is the USB front panel connection is a bit primitive. I'll probably stay with this Antec chassis for the next 10 years, periodically replacing its innards with the latest-and-greatest. My next internal upgrade will be the CPU chips (it has a dual processor SMP motherboard). I currently have a dual Athlon XP-1700 that was moded to MPs. I'm going to upgrade to XP-2400 and mod them to MPs. I plan on sticking with that architecture for about 3-5 years. I'll then toss out the motherboard and go to 64 bits. I'll probably stick with a dual processor motherboard but who knows what will be around in 5 years.
