"Bush has behaved like a caricature of what a right-wing president is supposed to be, and his continuation in office will discredit any sort of conservatism for generations. The launching of an invasion against a country that posed no threat to the U.S., the doling out of war profits and concessions to politically favored corporations, the financing of the war by ballooning the deficit to be passed on to the nation’s children, the ceaseless drive to cut taxes for those outside the middle class and working poor: it is as if Bush sought to resurrect every false 1960s-era left-wing cliché about predatory imperialism and turn it into administration policy."
The problem is this conservative has simply been successful spun by the media. Bush is a caricature because the media has painted him as a caricature. Bush hasn't "resurrect every false 1960s-era left-wing cliché" it's all the Left has left. The Dems don't have any thing new, so they drag out all the 1960-era left wing crap. Such as describing Bush as Hilter, saying it's all about oil [imperialism], saying the Pariot act is big brother, etc, etc.
There is a lefty illustration of Blair and Bush. The caption reads something like "Blair finally comes to his senses" and Blair is shown punching Bush.
The Left simply can't understand how Blair could rationally be on the same side as Bush. But it's not hard to understand. Before the Bush presidency, Blair was describe as similar to Clinton- and there is a similarity. And if Clinton was the prime minister of the UK, he too would have been on same side as Bush. Bush, Clinton, and Blair are Centerist. Blair and Clinton talk Left. Bush talks Right [more specifically Bush talks to the christian coalition].
I would say that most people still don't understand that the Cold War is over. We are in a different era- it's not really an era of terrorism, it is an era of democracy- and the door has just opened.
