He speaks here like a man backed into a corner. He's only endorsing Kerry because he believes that Kerry is very much the lesser of two evils, not because he has a single shred of support for any liberal ideas.

He believes that it's better to have a real liberal in office than a faux conservative. It's easier to draw a bead on the liberal.
