Current Events » in reply to You asked: "Do you want them back in charge?" Lindy probably does! It fits with her leftist totalitarianism.

No, I actually don't think she does.

I've seen this on a number of issues with a number of people. The principle of non-contradiction is not part of the thinking process, which allows them to advocate a certain position when the only alternative is something they don't want, or is impossible.

I think you may have seen me argue this sort of thing a number of times. The response is often a sneering reference to "black and white" thinking, or a frustrated anger when I ask for specifics on alternatives. Someone here, I'm sorry to say I forget exactly who, came back with something along the lines of "it's not my job to think of alternatives, it's the President's."

The magic word in the back of their minds is, "somehow." Eating and having the cake is one of the foundations of the liberal philosophy. See also: economics.

To such minds, it is no problem at all to attack the current policies in Iraq, while insisting that leaving Saddam in power was the furthest thing from their minds. Kerry did this. Fortunately for him, the media was on his side, and never asked the specific questions that would cause his thinking process to seize up like a gearbox with sand poured into it.
