The UN is running to get in front of the parade, you can have no argument here that they are not going in the right direction.
The UN is a body without boundaries and nationality. Any power the UN has is limited and based upon the good will and good wishes of its membership.
That a terrible disaster was required to convert the perception of much of the world that the US was a warrior state into the US is a humanitarian force is good for the US. It is good for international relations.
That the same disaster lead the member nations of the UN to work together for the benefit of the unfortunate is also good.
That the US is taking a leadership role in relief efforts and being a positive influence for the UN as well is also good.
The Book of Habbacuk asks "why do bad things happen to good people?" Right now the world community (including the UN) is asking only, "what can we do to help?"
And there is no oil involved.

- How many bases does the UN have? How many helicopters?
- All their bases are belong to us (n/t)
- Fine. Then maybe the U.N. should start remembering who's doing the heavy lifting.
- PS: You made an interesting choice of board for a discussion.
