It was. It also pointed out the logical imbecility of stating that the Republicans in America, particularly the current administration, had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that an election just happened in Iraq.
For the record, I agree with your assessment of Americans running around waving a purple finger, something that was a lethal risk for Iraqis. While there's nothing inherently wrong with making a point that way, to me it would feel uncomfortably like wearing a medal I had not earned, and I wouldn't do it myself.
