I was never a huge fan of the orig three - the acting was at best wooden, and at worse, unworhty of the school nativity play.
But - I thought I'd go to the cinema to see the first of the new three a few years back.
In my entire life, I have only ever walked out of one film - and that was it. The acting was SO bad, SO overly directed. The constant use of blue-screen CG sets was noticeable not only in the actors detachment form their surroundings but also as a technical issue. It was so bad, about an hour in I thought "Actually - I'd rather be doing something else" - so I simply left, asked for a refund (which I got) and went and took the car to the jet wash instead.
I've seen Ep 2 on television since, and the pattern was highly similar.
I'm just dumbfounded as to why people go to see these films. The plots are thin, the acting terrible, the effects overdone by a dozen orders of magnitude.
It's just a vehicle for the ego of George Lucas. Sadly - tens of millions want to get on board and furnish his pockets a little more as a result.
