"If only the french could understand how delighted the unitedstatesians would be by a "non". "
Well, it might be funny, and maybe some might think it could be because your huge tome of constitution is madness and maybe the people have much more sense than the elite bureaucrats. But that's probably that a little too much wishful thinking. Probably it due to just trying to push too many compromises through at one time, thereby making too many factions that oppose it.
But no one over on this side of the pond seriously thinks there won't be a EU- the basic concept is something vast majority of Europeans want and is something which would be in the US national interest. Of course the ones that want "oui" are trying trying to sell it the Last Great Hope or something. "You don't want the end of world do you [or you don't want the Americans laughing at you- which apparently is the same thing]?" Well, then you must vote for this constitution which bigger than large city phone book.
I say the French bureancrats just don't have any faith in their ability to turn something fairly simple into something vastly over complicated. All they have to do is not make impossible to modify the constitution and in few years they will have a vast maze of a constitution worthy of their admiration and inner joy.
