And, he's an occasional poster here.
And, his comment was on the sound of the word blogosphere itself.
Since you're so fond of the "what if" digression, I'll pose one for you to mull over.
Start by comparing Watergate and the toppling of Nixon -- traditional news-media's finest hour -- with the faked memo about GWB's National Guard service and the toppling of Dan Rather ... which, as far as I can tell from discussion here and elsewhere, is the alternative medium's finest hour so far.
(medium as a singular noun on purpose, btw, meaning the Web. The traditional media are television and radio signals, and ink on paper -- not who owns them)
My 'alternative past' question for you is: If the blogosphere of today had existed in 1973, would they have been able to break the Watergate story? Would the deputy director of the FBI go, as "Deep Throat", to a blogger instead of a newspaper?
And a bonus question: Would the hypothetical blogosphere of 1973 have opposed Nixon's lawlessness, or supported him in spite of it?
I ask this question because all I know of the 'world' of political blogging is through what you post here, Tom... and that's been so one-sided, and so syncophantically pro-administration, that all it does is reinforce my resolve not to go 'there' myself. I.e., there's more than enough here.
