...I really want you to believe this, Tom, that I make no predictions, there is no plan, nobody's talking about challenging the Right's hegemony, we lefties are broken and dispirited, we cede the field to the righteous Right and plan to retire to our gardens and live out the rest of our lives dreaming about the glorious past and what might have been. You're right to believe that your victory's permanent and your grasp on power can never be broken. You have every right to run roughshod over any one who opposes you. Go ahead and get drunk with power, you've earned yourselves a bender. Rest easy knowing that we wretched liberals will tug our forelocks and bow down before our natural masters, and will accept as just whatever punishment the Right, in its inifinite wisdom, deems fit to mete out for our sins. Bush got a mandate in 2004 to charge full steam ahead, and liberals will step aside and cheer our liberators. Please believe that. Please believe your own rhetoric.
