re: Economic externalities reduce individual choice and freedom
That's unfortunately one example of why the ideology of pure liberterianism does not work. What's really difficult is to establish a philosophical framework for deciding when govt intervention is required and how it is to be done without veering far left into a central planning authority solution. Since the proper role for govt in my view is to protect its individual citizens, it seems proper for the govt as a whole to 'defend' individuals from abuse by the legal 'individuals' as exemplified by corporations. Interpreting all these varied scenarios and implementing viable solutions is the rub.
