Officials vs interlopers

It is worth noting that the outlandish claim of an Israeli link to 9/11 was NOT made by any of the Democratic congressmen nor any of the witnesses. The event was open to the public, and the claims cited were made in literature distributed by members of the audience, without permission, in an overflow room where the hearing was being shown on closed-circuit TV. That literature has been strongly condemened by both Rep. Conyers (who ran the hearing) and DNC chair Howard Dean.

Sure, it would have been better if they'd had more control of the crowd and didn't let anyone pass their own leaflets around, but it was NOT part of the official hearing.

If you're going to tar Conyers et al with those 9/11 claims, then we also have to tar the GOP leadership with the religious wackos who claimed 9/11 was brought about by tolerance of homosexuality

As for McGovern's comments, I disagree with his comments and his tone, but sure it's not anti-Semetic to suggest that support for Israel has something to do with our middle east policy. Would we care as much about Syria if it were an island in the Indian Ocean? No different than our conflict with N. Korea being related to the security of South Korea and Japan. Suggesting we invaded Iraq because the Jews control US policy is offensive and wrong; suggesting that one of the motivations was improving the security of a major ally in the region is reasonable.
