Think about the idea of "shuddering to be in Terri's state." Doesn't really add up, does it? Kind of like those people who want to be cremated because they can't bear to think of being shut up in a coffin and buried.
IMO, accommodating the parents would have caused the least amount of pain to a lot of people. Terri as a person was no longer part of the picture.
