re: The cynicism about video games

Give me a break. Frank Lloyd Wright didn't spend all his time designing buildings. You are pushing for work-aholicicism. That's just as unhealthy. Kids need to play. Adults need to take breaks from reality. Its what keeps us sane. If it isn't balanced in favor of too much work or too much play, then you have problems. Different people have different interests and passions. Alot of adults watch sports. How much time is wasted doing that? I'm one of those who could care less about professional sports, but I do see why its a necessary part of some people's lives.

I think you are being far too cynical and simplistic about the different generations. Obesity and laziness among gen'y'ers is a growing concern. I'm sure the "Greatest Generation" felt the same about the boomers, and the booomers about the x'ers, and now the x'ers about the y'ers. But guess what? Brilliant kids are still being produced which will lead the next generation. When the y'ers figure out that it takes work ethic to get and keep a job they will wake up, just as the x'ers did and the boomers before them. The wwII kids had a war and depression upbringing to teach them, so they are the exception to the rule.

Perhaps we are in a downward spiral. I'm not old enough to see what the boomers were like as kids, (Weren't they big into sex, drugs, and Rock and Roll or something?) but I doubt it deserves the cynicism you label it.
