There are very many intelligence and memory tests developed for animals from lab mice to dogs and primates.
I'm sure this will be tried on chimps before testing on humans. You could also make observations of the chimps personality as well as its intelligence and memory.
Science Fiction is becoming science fact too fast even for the cognoscenti.
