Brains teleportation and insta-clone Toms.

I suspect transportation or teleportation would be achieved by turning the constituent atoms of an object into new isotopes and loosening them from their present location, while directing them to a new location.

Einstein said that as an object approaches light speed it assumes infinite mass and takes up infinite space. The ticket would be to accelerate an object to lightspeed from one location, achieve that infinite mass and space and then bring it down again in another location.
Moving mass at lightspeed would be easier if one created new isotopes of your target atoms, making them more like radiation.

The amount of energy to do this feat is prodigious. It's the same sort of technology advanced craft would have to use to traverse the vast distances that compose the galaxy/universe.

As to Tom's question about seeing himself if an exact duplicate were suddenly made of his anatomy - he would not be seeing out of two sets of eyes but the presence of the other would likely provide interference with the "real" Tom. A sense of disquiet and mental irrirtation would result as brain/thought frequencies emitted by near identical cell structures would interfere with his own consciousness in the same proximity. Like two broadcasting beacons on the same frequency on the same hill - lots of static and broken up signal noise as the waves collide. (The same thing would likely happen if one travels to a parallel universe and meets one's double)

The reality is "instant cloning" would most likely create a dead body. Any being that would assume control of such a handy anatomy after it appeared would likely be a "disincarnate" being, ghost or whatever name you fancy...and a scarya-- Tom would be the result.
