Brass tacks

Spending is the issue. It's ALWAYS been the issue. It was the issue during Reagan's tax cuts, and it's the issue now.

In constant dollars, adjusted for inflation, the Federal budget is now four times what it was in 1961. Yet somehow in 1961 the military was fighting the Cold War at its peak, old people and the poor weren't being shoveled off the streets to be processed into Soylent Green, and most people were doing pretty well financially. Somewhere, there's got to be some fat in there.

Bush isn't helping much. I could have thrown him off the deep end of the pier when he passed that Medicare drug entitlement.

The other thing is, IMO a dollar in the hands of the private sector will almost always be more productive than that same dollar taken away from the private sector and put in the hands of the government.

I'm most familiar with space issues, but the government has never been the hallmark of efficient use of money.

When you read headlines of "billions lost due to tax cuts," turn it around: "billions added to economy due to tax cuts."
