My point is that the tax cutters claim government spending is a big anchor on economic growth. Prove it.
Every dollar taxed out of the economy is a dollar not available to that economy. And most likely, the dollar will be spent somewhere where there is no real demand for it, which is why it had to be taxed away instead of acquired by investment.
Each little government fiefdom then becomes self-sustaining, sometimes long past any general public demand for it.
I go on a case-by-case basis. I have many examples of how the government has spent money on something versus how the private sector has done so. The reputation for government inefficiency has been well-earned over the past decades. You'd think you would see enough examples just in the space field, never mind military and other areas.
Ideally, a properly-organized society would prevent citizens from voting the money out of each others' pockets, but we have what we have, and the demand for money from the treasury is essentially infinite.
I'm not hopeful. Next big push will be for socializing the health care system entirely, and it will flatten our economy like a bug.
