Unions have made some mistakes, but I wouldn't give two cents for the tender mercies of business toward the workers without them. Unions rose because unchecked capitalists became abusive. This is not a theory. Labor is the equal of capital, but individual laborers are weak compared to the wealth that funds the means of production. Collective bargaining balances the equation.
Continuing to condemn unions will not erase the basic reason they rose in the first place, which is the same reason some form of labor organization will continue to be necessary. The biggest mistake that the unions have made is not being unions, but becoming big business.
Also, the NEA is more than a union. All you have to do is look at their work to understand that. However, since they oppose George GoldenBoy Bush's "No Child Left Behind" project because it's unfunded, they must be bad.
