If the NEA, which has been around since the 1860s, has been so successful at turning the nation left, how do you explain the current incubents?

Education in the US is in the hands of local and state governments. If you want to blame someone for education standards, look at the people who are responsible for running it. The NEA speaks for the teachers, who are trying to do their jobs.

Piece of trivia: In what year did a lawsuit before the Supreme Court by the NEA bring an end to mandatory maternity leave for teachers?

Answer: 1974.
