You're not too far off the mark, EP. I did a Space Exploration merit badge clinic for 23 Boy Scouts yesterday and we weren't ten minutes into the session on the historical reasons and the knowledge we're looking for now and those kids had zeroed in on asteroids and comets and what happens when they hit, and are there any that we're concerned about

So I gave them the 2004 MN story, and what folks are hoping to do about it, but all day long questions would crop up relating to asteroids. Mars barely even registered in the discussions and they were much more interested in our Moon.

If the Mars Society team had been able to show they would have had the opportunity to do a session on requirement #7, designing a Moon or Mars base. Since all I had was a large amount of Moonbase resources and references that's what the homework assignment was. I eagerly await their results.

Oh, and the coolest idea for an unmanned probe (req. 5c): Saturn Ice Ring Sample Return (Scot Wong from Troop #83).

Taking space to the people,

Ken
