Not only trite, but off the point, irrelevant, misleading.
My point is that the same kind of people who DID favor slavery for economic reasons are the people who oppose Universal Health Care for economic reasons. In fact have opposed many, many things for economic reasons. They are the same people who consider the US the greatest country in the world.
Tom attempted to define slavery as a function of current government, and yet I don't see him as a slave. He doesn't seem to fit. I don't fit, you don't fit, and lots and lots of people are economic slaves of large corporations.
Which doesn't bother him a bit. Not even Bolivians having to buy all water from Halliburton didn't bother him. Now that's slavery.
