Its a "chinese whisper" story. It appears to have originated as a claim on Busty Taylor's website and has been repeated almost verbatim from website to website as if it were true. You'll note that the name of the pilots is not ever offerred so the claim can't actually be confirmed in any way. Here's the actual story:

Lindy, there are a lot of claims floating around the internet intended to give some explanation why any one particular can't have been made by people. Unfortunately, they are so poorly documented, the accounts can't be verified. They're just nice tall tales.
