The plight of these immigrants sounds a lot like the Lithuanians of Sinclair's The Jungle. They were immigrants, they were for the most part ignorant and they were victimized by Chicago's meat packing industry.

A country is responsible for it's immigrants and France is getting a deserved black eye from this situation as we did in Chicago. I did not find anything particularly racist in your comments unless the use of the word primitive is construed to be a racial epithet but to compare the situation to the way things were done in the 16th century is not accurate and to assume that the average liberal is either ignorant or unmoved by the starvation of children is over the top.

There are people that are as jaded as you say but they are not average in any way. Most people mean well. Lack of follow through is often the problem in western culture. We let them into the Super Dome but we don't prepare to feed and care for them when things go south. We are famous for killing with kindness.
