...there are multiple moderators to share the load. On the night in question, Mary Anne posted a message on the moderator's board, after 1AM her time, after that Herculean effort, announcing that she was finally retiring for the night, and handing-off the board to me. I watched it for another couple of hours, and if the problems had continued I'd have tried to hand it off in turn to ModBob. We now have a span of timezone coverage of five hours (or is it six? I keep forgetting the time zone in Hawaii). Mary Anne, Frank, and Fox are on Eastern time; I'm on Pacific; and RL's out there in the ocean on Hawaiian time. Remember that the server's on Pacific time, so you should adjust the timestamps accordingly.
When RL is scheduled to spend time on the mountain, he posts a notice on the mod board so that we'll know that he might have a hard time getting online. That's the signal for the rest of us, me in particular, to keep a sharper eye on Space/Science and not assume that he'll notice something right away.
Behind the scenes, we're watching each others' backs and trying to balance the load. I am sooo happy that there are multiple moderators now.
