SAM: "Donald, I know you'll also refer to Mayor Nagin and Governor Blanco as Mr. Nagin and Mrs. Blanco, respectively. Due to their actions, or rather, inaction - gross incompetence bordering on criminal negligence IMHO - they're obviously unfit to hold office as well."
MY REPLY: Hardly. You're blaming the victims here. How in God's name do you think the City of New Orleans or the State of Lousinana could respond when virtually every resource available to them from communications to power to law enforcement was literally swept away by Katrina?!?
Every member of the New Orleans police force was a victim of Katrina. And half of Lousiana's national guard was off in Iraq at the time. Food supplies within the city were soaked with pollution filled flood waters. Shelter was under water or blown apart by 150 mph winds.
In contrast, the federal government has national resources from well outside the disaster zone at its disposal. Suggesting that local and state officials, who are themselves victims of this disaster are at fault for not mobilizing these national resources is just plain asinine. Its the federal government's job to do that and they failed to do so.
