Again, should such an ID be required to vote, I have no problems with it being subsidized to those who need it.
Look, I won't argue that I have problems with any national ID system, and I really wish this could be handled on a state-by-state basis. As it is, the voting system is a fifty-state zoo, ripe for exploitation.
Is this another situation where the price in freedom and privacy is too high for the efficiency gained? It isn't an easy question.
Can't an overall requirement, not too specific, be set by the Federal Requirement, and it be left up to the states to fulfill? The requirement could include not requiring money to get an ID.
Still think that making a citizen jump through a hoop or two to vote is not in itself a bad thing. As always, I have no clear idea what the hoops ought to be. I do know what kind of government we are going to end up with by driving the voting population toward the lowest common denominator of uninformed, unwilling, or uninterested voters.

- Agreed. ID's should be FREE to those voters who can not afford them. (n/t)
