That is, if you're giving more than lipservice to upward mobility as an Amercian value. Of course, the reality of human nature is more often than not people want to shut the door to others after they get theirs, and that, to me, characterizes the Right in a nutshell. Genuine upward mobility has always been a Democratic goal, and that's a fundamental that separates the two parties.
