Yeah, I knew that was a mistake when I typed it. I was trying to avoid a reaction I have gotten a number of times (not here) where any references to poverty or poverty areas, or words like "housing development" have had me immediately accused of being a virulent racist who not only thinks minorities shouldn't vote, but probably thinks hanging black people from trees should be the highlight of my weekend.
I threw that in for "political correctness." Should have known better.
And yes, I believe the very last thing the Democratic Party wants is one of their locked-in dependent constituencies moving up to the middle class and beyond. Their social and educational programs have a tendency to encourage dependence and the status quo, or hadn't you noticed?
