It's not winning when you loose control of a country.
In a face to face conflict with anyone there is no reason to believe the US wouldn't win hands down contrary to your original sorry reference. Anyone can loose a political battle, a war of nerves, or the battle for hearts and minds regardless of military prowess as people like you know and love so well.
