Both sides decided to settle for a stalemate.

Part of the reason for the Korean War was that the US signalled that it didn't care about Korea, the US sphere of influence ended at Japan.

Very much like Iraq and Kuwait. April Glaspe told Saddam the US wasn't concerned with Kuwait.
