Anti-Americanism

Let's be quite blunt. Anti-Americanism is proliferated on the CE board all the time. More often than not its posted by folks from Canada or those geographically closer to the Canadian border.

Bush is a polarizer. He take positions and folks either love them or hate them. Put a man in a biig red 1959 Cadillac Eldorado convertible with the huge fins and you'll have the same reactions - love it or hate it. Ignoring it is pretty hard to do.

The reasons for the love or hate are much the same. On the hate side of the coin, some will say it is too show-off-ish, others too old fashioned. Some will say it is flamboyant and the sign of eccentricity. Others may simple envy the man's ability to afford and drive such a vehicle.

On the love side will be those who are 1950s culture aficionados, some may love convertibles, others may love the flashiness or eccentricity of such a vehicle. Others may like it for its throwback, non-conformist aspects. Some may like it just because it costs a lot.

Bush does the same things. He is the political equivalent of a 1959 Cadillac convertible. His views are old fashioned by PC standards. He seems inflexible and unable to handle swift corners and twisting roads. He simply ploughs ahead regardless of the road and seems not to notice any potholes or irregularities.

That infuriates folks all over (including here at the HZ) and though they can't do much to change it, but like bad neighbors they can't ever say or hear enough bad about the man, his party or his country.

Travel to Europe and you'll see much of the provincial mentality that goes with anti-Americanism. A failure to see the world in its totality and seeking to find a scapegoat for one's owns ills makes it easy to point the figure at the United States and especially its current leadership.

Anti-Americanism is major side effect of global historical-illiteracy.
