re: yer not alone

I'm not anti-Semetic if that means I hate anyone Jewish. I simply don't give anyone any special status because of the label they place on themselves. To tell you the truth I'm somewhat offended by the label Jewish as it's used anyway. To me, the label signifies a faith not a lineage. No other faith seems to do this - elevate the name of their religious faith as a label to somehow signify where their ancestors came from. My gosh, I'm the furthest thing from a Methodist and yet that's what the bulk of my family tree chose as their religious preference. Should I go around calling myself a Methodist when defining where I came from? That would seem odd.

Anti anything is wrong and there's a thread of sympathy for the claims of anti-Semitism but there's also a sense that the group calling themselves Jewish have pushed their status upon others and embraced the labeling and pidgeon-holing that goes along with it. Heck, there'd be more sense to Israelis calling themselves Egyptian or people of African descent that just happen to embrace the Judean faith. Maybe if this religious pride was toned down a bit, so would be their problems.

The other thing that probably would get me labeled as an anti-Semite would be that I have serious concerns about the special status we give Israel in our foreign policy. I certainly understand supporting allies but I feel we elevate that one country higher on the priority list for one major reason - this Biblical tie that Christianity has with the land they occupy. To me there's no place in governmental foreign policy for religious sentiment.
