As for the "money pool" thing, maybe you don't see it. Maybe you can't. The idea that it isn't the government's money to "move around" never actually registers in a lot of people. Wealth "is." It's just a matter of making sure it gets spread around the right way.
Neutralizing the concept of "earning" is an important part of economic collectivism. You hear a lot about why the rich don't deserve what they have, or "lucked out," or did something rotten to get it. The Left is violently allergic to people who actually made it on their own, and some of their rationalizations are almost funny.
A free market system is about giving people the freedom to be creative and productive, the freedom to benefit from it, and the right to keep what they earn. Wealth is something that is created, not just shuffled. Nations that lean toward economic freedom tend to be a lot better to live in, even for the poor, than nations that lean the other way. "Poor" in America often means only having one car.
I just want to make sure we keep leaning toward economic freedom. God knows there's enough pressure the other way.
When they start teaching in our schools that freedom of trade is as important as freedom of speech, and for the same basic philosophical reason, we'll be getting somewhere.
BTW, we're paying more in entitlements because the number of old people is going up. Don't just make stuff up.
Employment's down? Uh....okay.
