This is otherwise known as "political dialog", and results in a heightened awareness of the danger by people of all faiths, except those relatively few who think they should be allowed to declare theirs the state religion. We do have conflicts, but they amount more to extreme inconveniences mostly, though I'm not sure you understand the devastating social consequences of a practice known as "shunning". People also have suffered from religious violence and economic persecution because of their religion in the US, and sometimes still do.
What little dialog there is in theocracies is extremely dangerous for the dissenters, but I believe it exists. Otherwise, there wouldn't be such a lot of "screeching". Screechers, I have noticed from my dealings with the Christian variety, screech to drown out and intimidate those with other views. No other views, no screeching.
I believe the best way to defuse the mullahs is to make sure the dissenters have a way to be heard. We can do that.
Some Christian congregations in the US believe we are in the End Times, and actively seek to encourage the end of the world so that Jesus will come again. If you will look carefully at the popularity of the Left Behind series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins, you will see that this is not a small group. But as long as the argument here continues, we will also continue to keep those activities on a sane level.

The reason the US has separation of church and state is because we argue about it incessantly.
