Trouble is: knowledge of the unknown comes at a glacial pace, whether we have to learn from existing texts, or gather genuinely new never-before-seen evidence. While we wait, we indulge in fantasy. It's the fantasy that gives meaning to most people. They imagine that it is real, or could be, and as long as it doesn't collide catastrophically into reality, people will accept fantasy as a substitute for reality. And you will see people assert rather affirmatively that they believe this, and this, and this. And they don't believe that, or that.
Myself, I have lots of ideas, often taking the form of an absolutely ingenious concept. It's such a good idea I would almost call it an epiphany! Then within a few months I usually learn enough to file it under "G". This is a neverending process, during which I consume vast quantities of snack foods and bury myself in back-of-the-envelope calculations. It's a helluva lot of fun! :-)
