Some plain statistics

How many birds have been culled due to H5N1? The answer: hundreds of millions. How many birds have died due to H5N1? The answer Millions.

How many farmers/humans had to come in contact with those dead birds? Answer: Tens of thousands.

How many bird farmers and folks in proximity to bird filth have died since 1997? Answer: 92

How many of those contracted a human communicable version of H5N1? None.

So how did they die? Direct contact (mainly inhalation) with bird fecal matter/carcasses.

Based on the above data and extent of H5N1 carcasses/human contact ratio, how likely is H5N1 to mutate into a human communicable virus? Almost nil.

The CDC and the WHO tells us they're not overreacting.

Yet at the same time only folks directly connected to sick poultry have ever gotten ill.

Think about it for a second. Thousands, possibly MILLIONS of birds are at this moment breathing sick H5N1 infected sputum into the air as we speak. They are infecting eachother because H5N1 is geared to avian genetics. As H5N1 is highly lethal to birds, most die.

H5N1 has had at least 9 YEARS and BILLIONS, POSSIBLY TRILLIONS of individual 'viral cell to cell opportunities' to infect humans - and it hasn't.

Bottomline?
H5N1 isn't going to be the next human 'epidemic' much less 'pandemic'.
Bird flu is very bad for birds.
Bird flu is very bad for agricultural business.
Bird flu is great for pharmaceutical business.

Some of Bush's close friends hold large quantities of pharmaceutical stocks. His hyping the issue avoids any direct 'financial gifts' to certain folks and is the most humanitarian way of making them a buck before he leaves office - teaching the world to wash their hands, avoid drinking duck blood and improperly handling avian fecal waste.

How can preparing the world for sickness be a bad thing...right?
