I'm all for MS taking their time releasing a new operating system. Their past history of releasing products and letting the new users debug them simply sucks. I never get their upgrades until they've been thoroughly debugged by the public for at least 6 months. My processor and motherboard will do just fine in whatever rewritten OS Microsoft comes up with. There's too many really vocal and militant gamers out there that would burn down Redmond if MS didn't support their high-end screaming AMD machines.
I really wish my computing needs were met with Linux. I go with open-source whenever I can. The bulletin board on my business website is a wonderfully written open-source system. I use open-source graphics libraries and applications for my scenery design and application development work. Were I to open a company where employees were given networked workstations, they'd all be on a backbone of open-source software and databases.
