Hmmm....this years hurricane predictions warned all coastlines from Texas to NY are at risk. Couldn't you settle on a place a couple of hundred miles inland where travel time to the beach would be about 3 hrs.?
I like the mountains more because there are fewer tornadoes, but the area I'm moving to is known for severe weather as well. If your house has tripled, then I'd highly suggest you sell now, while you still have one. A major hurricane in your area would make it very difficult to collect from your insurance agent if billions of dollars in damages were incurred. Besides, what would be left of the neighbourhood?
If we compare the destructive force of the 2004 hurricanes and compare it tp last years, it only makes sense this year will be WORSE.
I plan to put my house on the market around the first of May while the kids are getting ready to get out of school on summer break. I'm sure a lot of couples have discussed moving, even if only inland. I feel safer being 100 miles inland, but our small community would be overwhelmed if a huge Cat 4 struck your area. Everyone would be scrambling for food, water, gas, shelter and jobs. The crime rate would go up and serenity would go out the door.
Not for me though, I'm headed for the mountains!
I'd have you husband see if he can transfer, or find someone that places people nationwide to get started on a position for him. Prepare to rent first, then buy. Start paring down..........really.
Now, back to MY packing.........I'm actually getting into it like a mouse storing up for the long winter ahead........
