This long ago stopped being about objective science.
We came very close to signing on to the idiotic Kyoto treaty, which, by excluding a major CO2 producer, made its political goals grossly self-evident.
If we don't get a grip, some other dumbass panic-stricken solution is going to be dropped on our heads. God help us all when the Congress gets up and believes that it has to DO SOMETHING right now. Whatever it is, or whether or not it's workable.
There are excellent reasons for weaning ourselves off of fossil fuels, even if the CO2 level hadn't changed in a hundred years. Oil is too precious to burn for fuel, and the sources where we get our oil are too damn looney, and too damn dangerous.
The usual "shut down our economy" ideas stink. We're not going to solve the problem by making productivity and economic growth illegal.
Start building nuclear plants. Do what we can to encourage alternative energy sources (tax breaks, fixing regulations) without going "National Energy Czar" on everyone's ass. Let fuel prices go up.
Like I said, you can tell the real motivations of the radical environmentalists just by bringing up nuclear power, or any high-tech solution, and see what they say.
Ironically, collectivist states around the world have had the worst environmental record on the planet.

It's the so-called "solutions," not the theories. How specific do I have to be?
