You are absolutely correct, corporatism began long ago. Early on it was a threat to the country until a Republican president did something about it, and that was Teddy Roosevelt. Corporatism has grown since on a gradual rate, up until Viet Nam and has grown exponentially since. I has bloomed under the Bush. Iraq is its crowning achievement. Today corporate interests have almost total control of government and produce the summaries that congressmen use to organize their votes. Information is the most potent tool in the arsenal and corporate spin is the sauce the Republican party has garnished their meal with.
Certainly corporatism existed before Bush. So did corruption, favoritism, profiteering, and bid rigging. I grant you, Bush has invented nothing. Bush's watch has seen the greatest corporate give away programs ever. Even Johnson backed off the "guns and butter" approach, but not Georgie who "stayed the course."
