Either that, or he must feel very strongly that he likes being a Senator.

If public service is what he wants to do, he has other opportunities. If a voice in the Democratic Party is what he wants to have, he shouldn't kick the Democrats who supported his candidacy in the ass.

He knows perfectly well that he's making a Democratic victory in the Connecticut Senate race very difficult. He knows the Democrats need that seat. He knows that the voters of Connecticut have spoken. What he doesn't know how to do is to get out of the road. "Independent Democrat", indeed. The least he could do is to run simply as an Independent, without pretending he has any interest in the Democratic Party, since he's abandoned party discipline, such as it is.

Do you think that the Republican leadership would put up with this even from a committeeman, let alone a Senator, for a nanosecond?
