Wife talked me into a diving trip in Hawaii out at an atoll. About an hour or so boat ride each way. Kids had no problems at all. Wife and I got a bit green, but not badly so. I did okay by staying on the top deck in the wind and the spray, although I got completely soaked by the bow splashes on the return trip. Gallons in the face, literally. But I wasn't sick. Did not partake of the barbeque at the atoll, but squirreled away a foil-wrapped burger that was still warm when I got back to blessed dry land.
Other people did a lot worse, including a couple that were almost completely incapacitated through the whole trip.
Took Bonine before the trip, and a brew of Sprite with little chunks of ginger floating in it was passed out by the crew to help, too.
Diving ("snuba" style--hoses attached to tanks on a float) was an interesting experience. Once. I maybe got about six feet down. That was plenty. My kids roamed the reef like groupers.
The ocean tastes terrible.
When I was a kid, I fantasized about having a huge submarine like the "Seaview," with big picture windows in front, and me lounging in an easy chair watching the coral reefs.
