Again with the dumping everyone into one bag.
I don't do any of these things.
But, human factors work often requires things to work with, this can include a spacesuit, a rock hammer and pretending the wearer is on Mars. What do you think the Moon Society crew did?
Strangely enough pretending they were on the Moon.
What do you think the Apollo astronauts were doing with "Grover" while running around in just PLSS near Flagstaff ...pretending they where on the Moon.
As to using existing plastic parts and canvas over using Ortho-cloth and fiberglass parts. Canvas is $3.99 per yard Ortho-cloth is over $100 per yard. We are moving to a more durable set of materials Cordura and Equestrian Lycra $16.99 and $13.99 respectively and a fiberglass HUT helmet system all cost much more than the inventive, simple and cheap plastic helmet PLSS Dewey Anderson made for under $100 each.
When they started marking locations for instruments for the shuttle cockpit in the 1970s they built a plywood cockpit and put up cardboard with drawn switches and knobs. Nobody could take such actions seriously!
