Why send humans to Mars

Nobody can do exploration or science like a human being on the spot. Just watching the Moon walks should have nailed that down years ago.

Is it worth the money?

I could go into offshoot technologies, but...

One day we're going to spot a very big rock out there with our name on it, and the propulsion tech required to divert it is not likely to be the same tech that can barely drop a few hundred pounds on Mars. It's going to be the kind of tech that can catapult platinum ingots off of a manned asteroid mining operation.
