Still thinking in Star Trek mode

Starships full of human crews acting like they are on a naval battleship.

AI will do a much better job, and it doesn't even need to be "intelligent"
or "aware/conscious" to do the job right, to say nothing of not being
strapped down by an 80-year life span, most of which is spent first in
education then trying to keep the failing organs functioning before their
ultimate demise.

If you have the technology to build and launch an interstellar vessel, then
you should also have the ability to place machines aboard that can handle
the whole mission on their own. So why burden the vessel with an organic
crew that needs lots of resources, plus the hazard that it might not even
be able to complete the mission due to psychological/cultural instability
over long periods of time? Seems both illogical and inefficient to me.

I keep being told that how we think advanced ETI might act and evolve
may not be the way they actually do things - to say nothing of the chant
that there may be nothing else living in the Universe (even Rare Earthers
like Peter Ward contend that many worlds probably have at least simple
life forms) - but I don't get any alternate ideas as to what else they might
do. So we just stop speculating and searching, huh? Bet that would make
a lot of people happy, especially those who like to keep a tight grip on their
tiny little empires and their minions.
