We are in the middle of a mass extinction caused by humans. It's not really all that hard to believe that intelligent might tend to wipe itself out. Not when you have intelligent educated people dismissing potential environmental issues with the same type of arguements used against those concerned about the passenger pigeon and carolina parakeet. Thankfully those same arguements were silenced before it was too late for the bison. Similar thought processes on the left refuse to deal realistically with the threats posed by terrorists. All knowledge is a double edged sword capable of harm or help depending on the wisdom and intent of the wielder. The more powerfull our technology becomes, the easier it is for human error to cause disaster as well as cure age old ills.

Those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
