Assuming DNA or something like it, then life would evolve through competition. All creatures would look at the world as win-lose, and as time went on that could bet more and more deadly.
Right now our civilization as stacked up technology, preserving what we've learned and building on it.
However, wisdom has to be learned by each individual.
So, at present, in this civilization, Mankind is dominated by competitive, someone wins and someone loses, black and white thinking which has many, many forms of lethality at it's disposal.
Personally, I don't think that Mankind will get through this crisis - the jingoistic ways of thinking are too attractive, there's too much of a drive to dominate and a consequent drive to resist. Ultimately with all means at each other's disposal.
I believe that is a factor which isn't conisdered in the statistic string, but may well be the fatal flaw which will prevent any civilization from surviving long enough to travel or project themselves to another civilization.

Not if all life is dependent upon evolution, I wouldn't think.
