Yech.
Now, on to the subject of Root Beer Floats:
To whom it may concern: You do NOT make a root beer float from soft serve. You get a mushy root beer shake.
You get a carton of plain, real, sugar-and-cream vanilla ice cream that has been stored on Pluto. If you don't bust at least one ligament digging a scoop out, it ain't cold enough.
Drop that into a frosted mug--anything involving root beer should be in a big, frosted mug--and pour a good brand of root beer on it. Not Safeway.
You know you've done it right when you see, under that big cap of creamy foam, a ball of ice cream floating in clear, clean root beer. When you dig a spoon into that ice cream, and take a bite, there's a crisp layer of frozen root beer clinging to it.
You may, if you wish, use two scoops.
Any questions?

Some fast food "ice cream" doesn't melt. It kind of "dries."
